With Distinction

"With Distinction" is one of a series of paintings that uses the owl to explore ways of knowing. The great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) appears to own any place it perches as it surveys its unchallenged domain - unless a flock of crows happens to spot it. Then all mayhem breaks lose as they mercilessly mob the owl. Success comes easily for this powerful bird; they are not picky about their food and will nest in almost every kind of landscape.
